Plum and Chrysanthemum Bloom at the Table.

This set combines KURA ONE® sake with a Kutani-yaki auspicious sake cup featuring a plum-and-chrysanthemum motif.

The vivid design of plum and chrysanthemum blossoms against a red ground makes a memorable presence on the table.

Plum blossoms, which open early in the cold, have long symbolized vitality, while chrysanthemums have been cherished as noble and auspicious flowers.

The brilliant overglaze colors characteristic of Kutani ware bring a festive, distinctly Japanese touch to the moment you pour a 200mL KURA ONE® Sake.

Pour a little at a time and enjoy comparing the character created by the rice, water, and breweries of different regions.

Recommended for anniversaries, gifts for international guests, corporate gifting, and special presents meant to leave an impression.

More than sake itself, this set offers the lasting pleasure of continuing to use an auspicious piece of sakeware.

The Experience We Want to Deliver

Neither Sake Alone nor Sakeware Alone. Give the Feeling of Celebration.

Plum and chrysanthemum blossoms painted against a red ground can change the atmosphere of the table simply by being placed there. Plum blossoms open first in the cold; chrysanthemums have long been regarded as noble flowers. Pour KURA ONE® Sake into the vivid colors of Kutani ware and a sense of celebration seems to settle into the glass itself. Because this festive quality could not be created by sake or sakeware alone, the set is especially suited to anniversaries, gifts for international guests, and memorable special occasions.

The Character of Each Region

Differences in Water, Soil, and Climate Bring Each Place into Focus.

Rice is not the only thing that shapes the flavor of sake.

Even with the same brewing method, changing the water can completely change the expression of the sake.

Soft water, smooth water, powerful water.

When the water of a place meets the brewing craftsmanship rooted there, flavors emerge that could not exist anywhere else.

Here are three distinct regional characters shaped by three different places.

Shizuoka
Shimizu, a land of clear streams renowned for ayu sweetfish.

A port town embraced by the blue of Suruga Bay and the ridgeline of Mt. Fuji. Set out from Shimizu Port on a cruise and dolphins may surface between the waves. Travel a little inland and the clear waters of the Okitsu River, where ayu swim, reveal the abundance of water that defines this place. The character of Shimizu—shaped by sea, mountains, and clear streams—can first be discovered through this sake.

Title

Shiga
Koka, a town where the memory of water still flows.

Koka and Minakuchi are home to roughly one-third of Shiga Prefecture’s sake breweries. This land once lay beneath ancient Lake Biwa for more than a million years, and high-quality underground water still flows quietly through its layers. Walk through town and you can hear waterways running along the old Minakuchi-juku route, a reminder that water remains part of everyday life here. That water shapes the character of the sake brewed in this place.

Title

Kagawa
Kanonji, shaped by sunsets and strong water.

Kanonji is a port town where orange sunsets melt into the Seto Inland Sea. Beneath it flows the Saita River, whose moderately hard water measures around 100 mg/L in hardness. Neither overly strong nor too light, this distinctive local water gives structure to the sake, alongside the quiet landscape of white-sand shores and satoyama countryside.

Tasting Notes

Shimizu | Shizuoka
Garyubai Yamada Nishiki Junmai Ginjo Nama

Aroma
Bring the glass to your nose and a bright ginjo aroma rises first. A generous sweetness is layered with the fresh youthfulness distinctive of nama sake, creating an open, inviting impression before the first sip.

Palate
The soft water of the Okitsu River creates a remarkably mellow entry. The umami of Shizuoka-grown Yamada Nishiki expands through the mid-palate, supported by restrained acidity and a clean outline. It has depth, yet remains clear and free of distraction.

Finish
Toward the end, the freshness of nama sake rises cleanly. A crisp finish brings the flavors together, settling into a clear Shimizu-like aftertaste where mellowness and definition coexist.

Brewery

Sanwa Shuzo Co., Ltd. | Founded 1686

Legend tells that on a full-moon night, a bush warbler led the founder to a clear spring beneath a plum branch. Today the brewery draws underground water from the Okitsu River system and carries out long, low-temperature fermentation in small 600kg tanks. In 2025, it won the Ginjo Grand Prix at the U.S. National Sake Appraisal and a Platinum Award at Kura Master. Tradition and precise brewing craftsmanship quietly support the character of Shimizu.

Koka | Shiga
Mifuku Aki no Uta Junmai Ginjo Nama

Aroma
A gentle, restrained ginjo aroma. Rather than making a dramatic statement, the soft expression of the rice fills the nose first, followed quietly by the freshness of nama sake with a measured sense of depth.

Palate
A mellow entry shaped by soft water filtered through the geological layers of ancient Lake Biwa. A moderate mineral quality rests beneath the softness, while umami supports the mid-palate and the overall profile remains cleanly defined.

Finish
Balanced between sweet and dry, leaning slightly dry. A clean edge emerges toward the finish, leaving a calm depth reminiscent of Koka without lingering heavily.

Brewery

Mifuku Shuzo Co., Ltd. | Founded 1917

Known as a brewery of “Shinobi Sake” from the land of ninja, Mifuku uses underground water from the Yasu River basin, filtered through the geological layers of ancient Lake Biwa over some four million years. Yamahai brewing is central to its style, with lactic-acid-derived acidity and umami that come alive alongside food. Its limited sake Sanrensei received a Platinum Award at Kura Master 2024.

Kanonji | Kagawa
Kawatsuru Yamada Nishiki Junmai Ginjo

Aroma
An elegant aroma from low-temperature fermentation rises quietly. It is restrained rather than showy, with the full expression of Yamada Nishiki rice showing a calm presence beneath the aroma.

Palate
The moderately hard water of the Saita River creates a firm structure. A substantial density spreads across the palate, with broad Yamada Nishiki umami held within a clean, uncluttered outline.

Finish
Powerful yet surprisingly refreshing at the end. It retains its depth and settles quietly with poise rather than sharpness, leaving a finish where strength and refinement coexist.

Brewery

Kawatsuru Shuzo Co., Ltd. | Founded 1891

It is said that the first-generation brewer moved in search of pure water and named the brewery after a dream in which a crane descended upon a river. The brewing water comes from underground streams of the Saita River, where fireflies dance in summer. Employees grow Yamada Nishiki themselves in the brewery’s experimental rice field, brewing each year while observing its changing character. The additive-free NORA has won Silver at the IWC and Gold at Kura Master.

FAQ

Q. What is KURA ONE®?

A. KURA ONE® is an experience brand that uses sake as a gateway to discovering and becoming captivated by parts of Japan you never knew. We share the character found in a region’s water, rice, breweries, and food culture through small-format sake, comparative tastings, pairings, gifts, and events.

Q. What is KURA ONE® First Release?

A. KURA ONE® Sake First Release is a series of 200mL canned sakes that lets you compare, in small servings, the character created by a region’s water and rice and by each brewery. Choose by place name and compare the flavors to discover parts of Japan you may not have known before.

Q. What is the Re:Local Series?

A. The Re:Local Series was created from a simple idea: to express the character of a region through the flavor of sake. Its basic principles are local rice, local water, and an original sake developed for the project.

Q. Can I choose the sakes freely?

A. Yes. For the 3-, 6-, and 21-can options, you can freely combine the three available sakes to reach the total quantity. You do not need to choose equal quantities of each. The “KURA ONE® Sake First Release 3-Sake Set” contains three fixed selections and cannot be customized.

Q. Why did you choose 200mL cans?

A. Because the smaller size makes comparison easier. The cans chill quickly, are easy to carry, and are resistant to breakage, making them convenient for home, gifts, and events.

Q. Is it really possible for nama sake to be distributed at room temperature?

A. Yes. KURA ONE® nama sake is not heat-pasteurized. Instead, microorganisms that can cause spoilage are removed through filtration and the filling expertise of a partner with more than 50 years of experience.

Q. Can companies and retailers place bulk orders?

A. Yes. We welcome inquiries based on intended use and quantity, including corporate gifts, retail and restaurant service, events, tastings, hotels, and ryokan. Please feel free to contact us through the inquiry form.
